"I never lose. I either win or learn" - Nelson Mandela

Fiona Bodipalar

Fiona was admitted to the Bar in England in 1989 and the Malaysian Bar in 1990. She has the distinction of becoming the first female partner in Sri Ram & Co in 1994 and remained there until she left in 2001 to form Bodipalar Ponnudurai Nathan which with the merger with De Silva in 2009 became Bodipalar Ponnudurai De Silva.

Fiona is a firm believer that negotiation and mediation is the most cost-effective and often least disruptive route for a client to reach their goals. However, she recognises that in some cases, litigation can be a necessary tool to achieve those goals.

Fiona’s extensive practice areas cover a wide variety of complex corporate, commercial and civil litigation matters, including contested injunction proceedings, administrative proceedings, intellectual property issues, partnership disputes, lender liability litigation, fraud claims, probate litigation, breach of contract actions, receiverships, contested foreclosures, banking litigation, minority shareholders actions and creditors’ rights issues.

Fiona has also been involved in a variety of arbitrations and is known for her ability to turnaround a case in record time. In fact in one particular case, the client came to see her in the morning and she obtained the injunction in the afternoon of the same day.

Commercial litigation is a minefield that many find difficult to manoeuvre. Fiona’s knowledge and experience has led to clients seeking her advice on corporate transactions that require the drafting skills of a litigator who is attuned to thinking out of the box. She thrives on adversity and is known for her ability to track down evidence and make a case where every other lawyer has said there is none.

Fiona’s clients value her because she mitigates the stress of litigation through her responsiveness, her efficiency and her excellence in advocacy. By taking on the full responsibility of their litigation, Fiona empowers her clients to invest their energy into what’s truly important: their families and their businesses.

Fiona has also developed associations with lawyers from other jurisdictions that have enabled her to deal with cross border disputes in an efficient and timely manner. Her vast experience in litigation has also led to clients seeking her out to prepare the complex commercial documentation that require an in-depth knowledge of the relevant laws that govern cross-border transactions.

Out of the office, Fiona is a Past President of the Rotary Club of Ampang and past Vice President of PAWS and actively advocates the rights of the underprivileged and abused animals.
