"Life reflects, life resounds, life echoes whatsoever you throw at life" - Osho

Thivina Kumaran

Thivina was called to the Malaysian Bar in 2009. She started her legal practice career in Kevin & Co, cutting her teeth on a wide range of cases involving both criminal and civil litigation. Thivina was immediately thrown in the deep end where she had to handle cases independently whilst still a junior in practice.

Managing to keep her head above water, she gained valuable experience which she then brought to BPD when she joined Fiona Bodipalar’s team as junior associate in 2012. Her ability to work independently and think outside the box enabled her to rise in the ranks, becoming a senior associate in 2015 and partner in 2018.

Thivina is active in the dispute resolution practice in the fields of civil and commercial litigation. Having conducted her own trials and hearings since her first year of practice inspired her to take the path less travelled by female litigators. Thivina works well under pressure, is not phased out by matters requiring urgent action and refuses to quit even where others have thrown in the towel and said that there is no hope. These are some of her key qualities that make clients value and seek her services.

Her current portfolio includes shareholders disputes, minority oppression actions, breach of directors’ duties, contentious insolvency and civil actions including injunction proceedings and breach of contracts. She has also assisted and appeared as co-counsel for lead counsel in landmark cases at the Court of Appeal and Federal Court.

Out of the courtroom, she is an avid yoga practitioner and a certified yoga instructor.
